i-Webmaster Project

Project Overview

All candidates for the iWebmaster Diploma are required to submit a practical website project at the end of the course. This project will help you demonstrate your skills in professional web design.The project topic may be chosen at your discretion (subject to approval) - or we will assign a topic for you.The project may relate to a work project, a hobby or you may know of a business that needs an updated website. A project ‘proposal’ must first be submitted that outlines your proposed website and two alternate designs. Upon submission of your proposal you will be notified which of your two designs we wish you to develop. The website proposal (approximately 2000 words) should describe the design and layout of the website and the ethos behind its design.The proposal must include the following topics:

  • Intended site audience (e.g under 12s, teenagers, corporate buyers)
  • A template layout
  • Navigation options (side bar, drop menus etc.)
  • Colour choices
  • Brand position and colour
  • Sample design and layout of key pages (home page, details page)

Developing the project website

The site must be built using XHTML and the Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Flash tools.The site must demonstrate proficient use of:

  • XHTML and CSS
  • Adobe Flash animation
  • Interactive end user form
  • An embeded map
  • Adobe spry components
  • Graphic imagery

Please ensure that:

  • The site is tested and useable on a wide range of screen resolutions and can provide satisfactory performance at a minimum of 3G internet access speed
  • You include your contact details including a photo, your name and e-mail address
  • You demonstrate good use of Flash.The site may start with a splash page (using Flash) enticing visitors into the site’s main sections or it may include some separate Flash animations throughout the site
  • One of these sections should have at least 3 sub-sections
  • All of the pages must have strong visual continuity

Text and photographs may be sourced from the web, but the navigation links, page layout and site structure must be designed and built by you. Graphics must be of appropriate resolution, scale and type.You must also be able to demonstrate during the project presentation how to create any special effects, layouts or graphics (rollovers, animations etc. ) used in your project.
